How They are Made
Natural diamonds form deep within the Earth's mantle under extreme pressure and high temperatures, about 90 to 150 miles below the surface. Carbon atoms bond in a crystal lattice structure over millions to billions of years, creating diamonds. These diamonds are then brought to the surface through volcanic eruptions in kimberlite or lamproite pipes. Once mined, gem-quality diamonds are cut, polished, and graded before being set into jewelry.
